Join Our Team
We are looking to appoint a flexible and inspirational Female School Counsellor for August 2025. The Female School Counsellor will provide social, emotional, and learning support to our students across both primary and secondary levels. They will collaborate closely with teachers, parents, and administrators to enhance the well-being and academic potential of each child within our school community. The Counsellor will promote the values, ethos and philosophy of the school and its vision and values, ensuring Qatari National Identity and values are at the center of all we do.
- Provide individual and group counselling to students, addressing a wide range of emotional, social, and mental health challenges.
- Work collaboratively with the whole school SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to support students with additional needs, ensuring a holistic approach to student well-being.
- Actively participate in the safeguarding team, contributing to the development and implementation of safeguarding policies and practices to ensure a safe environment for all students.
- Lead and facilitate whole school workshops related to mental health for parents, staff, and students, promoting awareness and providing practical strategies for emotional well-being.
- Communicate effectively with parents, particularly regarding sensitive issues, demonstrating cultural competence and respect for Qatari culture and Islamic values.
- Liaise with external agencies and mental health professionals to support students and parents, ensuring they have access to the necessary resources and interventions.
- Participate in school committees and initiatives aimed at promoting student well-being and academic success.
- Stay informed about current research and best practices in counselling, child development, and educational psychology.
- Promote a caring and supportive environment for students in which their concerns may be explored
- Practise preventative and/or interventionist methods to meet students immediate and future needs including:
- a. Individual or group counselling to students with identified concerns and needs
- b. Effective consultation and collaboration with parents/guardians and school colleagues, particularly the pastoral, learning support and safeguarding teams regarding students with identified concerns and needs
- c. Appropriate use of assessment tools for determining and structuring counselling sessions
- d. Referrals to other school support services
- e. Referrals/signposting to external sources of psychological/psychiatric support
- Ensure appropriate confidentiality of sensitive information; maintain appropriate and confidential records of counselling sessions and support including detailed records of work undertaken with each student.
- Identify trends and patterns of concerns, potential causes and possible supports
- Develop a thorough knowledge of mental health services available locally and develop strong working relationships with specialists such as clinical or educational psychologists and psychiatrists within these services.
- Participate in professional development activities, keep up-to-date with research, developments and best practice for counselling with the intention of improving professional knowledge and skills as well as the counselling service provided.
- Contribute to the schools PSHE education programmes; contribute to projects and committees such as those representing diversity, student voice etc.
- Identifying next steps for students for whom the school has worked and who require further support.
